Frequently Asked Questions

Once the COVID-19 vaccine is fully available why would I need Wayclear?

  • Wayclear not only reduces the airborne SARS-CoV-2 virus, but any and all viruses, bacteria, mold spores, volatile organic chemicals, and smells in its perimeter, making your home or business a safer, healthier, and more desirable space.

  • While the vaccine shows a promising future, the COVID-19 vaccine is not 100% effective against all variants. Further, protecting ourselves from the spread of any virus, such as influenza, is key to making sure we stay active, productive, and healthy.

  • The pandemic has shown us that at any time, a virus can completely disrupt lives and livelihoods. With that comes lower peace of mind in public spaces, even as the outlook pertaining to COVID-19 improves. Wayclear offers a blanket comfort level to whomever may entire your home or business.

  • With Wayclear, any future emerging pandemic will not present as high of an impact.

Are there any risks that come with having Wayclear?

  • No, unlike other air purifiers on the market, Wayclear's patent pending technology does not emit harmful ozone or contain any mercury.

  • Wayclear Air Disinfection Systems can be used anywhere & around humans without interference or health risks; UV-C energy is completely encapsulated within the housing thanks to a proprietary light and air diffusion system to ensure that only air passing through the system is exposed

  • Wayclear's air disinfection technology does not include a HEPA filter, which is a source for dust, mold, and particle build up.

  • Wayclear's Surface Disinfection Systems uses direct LED-UVC lights, which are unsafe for skin and therefore intended to be used in unoccupied areas. Wayclear is the only manufacturer to utilize laser detectors to shut down the system when it detects movement in its operating area. Wayclear can be integrated to a user’s mobile phone, so that an operator can safely monitor the cycle from outside the room.

What are the different types of Ultra-Violet energy?

  • There are three main types of UV energy, UV-A, UV-B and UV-C. Almost 90% of UV-A and UV-B and nearly 100% of UV-C is filtered by the earth’s atmosphere. UV-C has been used for years in the medical community for pathogen disinfection.

How does LED UV-C kill pathogens?

  • LED UV-C inactivates pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 by altering their genetic structure (DNA and RNA), preventing them from reproducing.

How is the UV-C dose measured?

  • UV-C dosage is determined using a calibrated UV light power meter.  The meter provides a measurement of the UV irradiance (power per unit area) in milliwatts per square centimeter.  Multiplying this irradiance value by the exposure time yields the desired UV dose in millijoules per square centimeter. In addition, test cards are available to estimate UV dosage; these cards change color when exposed to a specific UV dose.

How strong a dose is required to kill a virus such as COVID-19?

  • Under direct light, with no shadowing, viruses similar to the Coronavirus are neutralized with a UV-C dose of 0.6 millijoules per square centimeter.  (For comparison, food with one calorie contains over 4 million millijoules of energy).

Is it efficient to run LED UV-C technology?

  • Yes; Wayclear's patent pending technology uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which use 10 times less power than other UV energy sources.

Is there any upkeep necessary for my Wayclear device?

  • No - with lifelong fans, and no filters to change, Wayclear is designed to work seamlessly for upwards of 10 years with no maintenance.

  • Self-diagnostics continuously monitor system health and functionality so that you don't have to.

  • Wayclear operates 24 hours a day without need for adjustment or reprogramming

I understand the problems with HEPA filters, but why should I get Wayclear instead of a traditional UV light purifier?

Wayclear uses Ultraviolet Light Emitting Diodes (LED) which utilize the same technology found in mass produced commercial lighting fixtures. LED's have a history of product reliability, long service life and energy efficient operation.

  • Traditional UV-C light generation technologies include both low and high pressure mercury vapor lamps or pulsed xenon lamps. Each of these have several disadvantages:

    • These bulbs operate at extremely high temperatures and are unguarded. Severe burns can take place if a bulb is touched. Errant fingerprints could cause the bulb to explode when activated, resulting in a hazardous material clean-up due to the mercury used in the bulb construction.

    • Traditional UV-C bulbs require a regular maintenance schedule. This may require a permanent manufacturer service agreement with replacement bulbs recommended every 300-1000 hours. At start-up, these bulbs also can require a warm-up time, which can add minutes to the disinfection schedule.

    • Xenon bulbs may also generate ozone, which has been shown to be hazardous.

  • Wayclear LEDs allow for over 30,000 hour useful life and eliminate any chance of broken bulbs or associated high operating temperatures. Start-up time is instantaneous with LEDs.

  • By design, devices which utilize conventional bulbs utilize a centrally located light source, which results in a radially-generated beam pattern. This pattern is ideal for a circular space, but is less than optimum for normally-rectangular rooms. Alternatively, an LED array can be designed to focus and direct energy exactly where it is required on a single surface - customizable to your space.

How does Wayclear utilize UV-C LEDs in our products?

Wayclear offers three different product lines:

1)  Air Disinfection Solutions

2)  Surface Disinfection Solutions

3)  Custom integrated assemblies

  • The Air Disinfection Series consists of the first wide-scale adoption of LED technology used in air disinfection devices. Custom LEDs are utilized with unique lensing, resulting in a specific angle of energy tailored to an air channel sized for the unit’s airflow requirements. Custom electronics control fan speed, LED drive, built-in diagnostics and safety interlocks. The Air Disinfection Series is designed to be utilized in occupied areas. The units include safeguards to avoid UV-C exposure through proprietary methods including diverse viewing paths as well as special energy-absorbing coatings. The Air Disinfection Series is available in a wide variety of sizes to accommodate all room sizes.

  • The Surface Disinfection Series consists of a 360-degree tower which utilizes 16 integrated LED arrays. The system utilizes a wireless control interface in addition to safety rated personnel sensors for safe operation. Each Surface Disinfection system can be interfaced with up to two remote units for disinfecting separate areas of a room simultaneously, such as an adjacent washroom. These remote units can also be customized with additional LED arrays and configurations per the customers application. The Surface Disinfection Series is controlled by using either an integrated touch screen control or a wireless interface which can be used with a pc, tablet, or phone app.

  • The Custom Integration line encompasses the use of our LED and airflow technology integrated directly into the customers application. This approach provides value to the end user by elimination of conventional packaging, utilizing available power resources and interfacing directly with the end application/user.

How does Wayclear design their products?

  • Wayclear utilizes a parametric design approach in which modules of their design are utilized and combined to achieve the specific design goals of output power, airflow and energy efficiency. These modules have been modeled using optic analysis, air flow simulation, and PCB design. After the theoretical modeling is completed, samples are constructed and performance is directly measured using NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) traceable calibrated UV light measurement tools, calibrated air measurement probes, sound meters, and other electronic equipment. All design is completed internally, at our domestic locations.

How are systems validated through testing?

  • In addition to the internal design and test staff at Wayclear, independent external test labs are utilized for further validation. Within the lab setting, test results are calculated using testing protocols which measure the device effectiveness compared to a control sample. These results are also independently verified using accredited microbiologists, who document & verify Wayclear system effectiveness.
